Here's My Amalfi Coast Itinerary for a 1 Day Trip
With its stunning seaside towns, sparkling blue waters, and dramatic cliffs, Amalfi Coast is often what people think of when they dream of vacationing to Italy. Even if you only have one day to experience this slice of paradise, don't worry! I've mapped out the perfect itinerary to help you make the most of your day along the coast, packed with the best spots to eat, hike, swim, and relax.

Morning
Coffee and Pastries in Sorrento
Your day begins bright and early in Sorrento, a charming town that serves as the gateway to the Amalfi Coast. The streets here are adorned with lemon trees, cobblestone alleys, and quaint shops, creating a unique and inviting atmosphere. But before you set out to explore, fuel up at the renowned Pasticceria Monica.
This local gem is known for its incredible pastries, which are almost too pretty to eat. I recommend grabbing a lemon-filled croissant, a tribute to Sorrento's famous lemons, paired with an espresso to kick any lingering jet lag to the curb. If you're lucky, snag a seat on the terrace and enjoy the lively streets as you eat your breakfast. It is the perfect spot for some early-morning people-watching.
While Sorrento is a lovely destination in itself, you're just getting started. After your energizing breakfast, it's time to lace up your hiking boots and head out for an adventure on the Punta Campanella Trail.
Hike Punta Campanella
Located just a short 30-minute drive from Sorrento, Punta Campanella offers one of the most rewarding hikes along the Amalfi Coast. This 4-mile trail winds along the Mediterranean coast and ends at a medieval watchtower. The panoramic views from here, overlooking the Bay of Naples and Capri, are breathtaking. For the adventurous souls, there's even an option to rappel down to the sea. The secluded cove below feels like a hidden secret shared just between you and the universe.

Afternoon
Visit Positano
After a morning hike, it's time to head to Positano. The drive along the coast is an adventure, with winding roads and jaw-dropping views. While the narrow streets and sharp turns can be intimidating, driving slowly and taking in the scenery will make the journey more enjoyable.
Parking in Positano can be a challenge, especially during peak season, so it's worth knowing in advance that street parking is limited. If you can't find a spot, several parking garages are around the town. Just be prepared for the tightly packed conditions — parking attendants have been known to squeeze cars into impossibly small spaces. In fact, during my trip, we watched one attendant accidentally scrape our rental car against a wall, so it's wise to be cautious here.
Once you're parked, get ready to explore this iconic cliffside town. Stroll through the colorful streets, browse the boutiques filled with handmade sandals and ceramics, and enjoy the stunning coastal views at every turn.
After the hike, you'll likely have quite the appetite, so stop for lunch at one of Positano's renowned restaurants. Chez Black is a great choice for a casual seafood pasta dish right on the beach. For something a bit more upscale, try Bruno Positano, where the views from the terrace are as good as the food. If you're craving pizza, head to Da Costantino — it's higher up on the hill but offers fantastic food and a quieter atmosphere away from the bustling crowds.

Swim in Fiordo di Furore
Once ready, continue your journey eastward along the coast to Fiordo di Furore. Tucked between towering cliffs, this narrow fjord-like inlet could easily be missed from the road above. A long stairway leads to a pebble beach and crystal-clear waters. In peak season it can be rather crowded, but if you are lucky enough to go in shoulder season like I did, the crowd was sparce, making it ideal for swimming, relaxing, and snapping a few photos.
Fiordo di Furore is a favorite among photographers. Its dramatic cliffs, boats visiting the inlet, and stone bridge over-head make for postcard-perfect shots.
Pro tip: Bring water shoes, as the pebble beach can be tough on bare feet, but the experience is well worth it.

Evening
Dinner in San Michele
As the sun begins to set, it's time to drive up the coast to the tranquil village of San Michele, where you'll conclude your day with an unforgettable dinner. Restaurant La Selva Di Fusco Antonio, a hidden gem far from the tourist crowds, awaits you. This family-run restaurant offers a cozy, intimate atmosphere and serves up delicious, authentic Italian cuisine. Their homemade pasta is a must-try, made fresh daily and paired with a glass of local wine. Opt for a classic like spaghetti alle vongole or try their seasonal specialties for a culinary treat.
Where to Stay for the Night:
La Vigna di Bacco
After dinner, retreat back to La Vigna di Bacco Relais in San Michelle for a relaxing night's stay. This charming bed and breakfast offers beautiful sea views, cozy accommodations, and all the modern amenities you'll need after a long day of exploring.
With free parking and Wi-Fi, plus a delicious à la carte breakfast in the morning, it's the ideal spot to rest your head before continuing your Amalfi Coast adventure. And with its ocean views, you'll wake up to the gentle sounds of the sea and the scent of lemon trees in the air.
Final Thoughts
While one day may seem like a short amount of time to explore such a beautiful region, this itinerary will help you experience the best of the Amalfi Coast in just 24 hours. From hiking along stunning coastal cliffs, swimming in secluded coves, dining on fresh pasta, and soaking up the local culture, every moment on the Amalfi Coast is one to savor.
So pack your bags, bring your camera, and prepare for an unforgettable day in one of Italy's most breathtaking destinations!
